When issues are visualized in a Dependency Map, there are a number of default rules applied for how they are sorted. With Dependency Map for Jira Cloud version 3.1.5 we introduce support for customizing the sort order.

Consider a map where issues are displayed using the Sprint field for the column field:

By default, the following rules are used:

  • Issues in the Backlog are placed after issues in sprints.
  • Sprints are sorted according to their state, in the order: closed, active, future
  • Active sprints are sorted by their dates – completion, start, end.
  • Issues that are completed (e.g. Status is Done) are placed in (None) and is always placed last.

The customize the sorting, open the configuration pane and expand “Value sorting” by clicking the ⚙️:

  • Select a field to view and customize the sorting criteria for the field. Here we’ve selected Sprint.
  • Hover over a criterium to learn more about it.
  • Drag to re-arrange the sort criteria.
  • Click the small v/^ button to toggle ascending / descending sorting.
  • Click the x to revert to the default sort criteria.

Sometimes a short video says more than a thousand words, so here’s a short demo of customizing the sorting for Sprint and Status:
